- Interior Design 2016

I am feeling inspired by a number of projects that I'm currently working on, artists I'm researching, music I'm listening to and clothing I'm spying .. Here is what's on my mind and work agenda, aside from the utterly disturbing state of our country. Please do what you can do make a difference. My friends and I have been focusing on just that. xxx

  1. I like shoes that feel unique. These sandals from Sezane are on my summer shopping list.
  2. The contrast between soft greens, flowers and black. I'm planning to paint my shed a warm rich black color over the next couple of weeks.
  3. Neutrals and white bathing suits at the beach.
  4. Oversized trees in beautiful terracota pots.
  5. Neutral interiors that mix textures. I just purchased Grotto shell chairs for a client's dining room. They are going to look stunning.
  6. My daughter has been making beaded necklaces to sell for weeks. I have started to send her some inspiration photos. (mind you she is twelve) I am loving the warm summery colors of Lizzie Fortunato's jewelry.
  7. Speak up, call, vote, volunteer and donate your time to groups who support gun awareness, control, reform, safety and bans on assault rifles. www.everytown.org, https://ift.tt/BA1NnWp are a great place to start.

A Low impact hobbit Home in Wales - Interior Design 2016

How charming is this little hobbitesque house? It was built by Simon Dale for his family for only £3000. The frame of the house is made from locally sourced Oak trimmings and the walls of the property are made from Straw bales, stone and mud which have been finished off on the interior with a lime plaster.

"The house was built with maximum regard for the environment and by reciprocation gave us a unique opportunity to live close to nature. It housed our family whilst we worked in the woodland surrounding the house doing ecological woodland management and setting up a forest garden, things that would have been impossible had we had to pay a regular rent or mortgage. The main tools used were a chainsaw, hammer and 1 inch chisel, little else really. I was not a builder or carpenter, my experience was only having had a go at one similar house 2yrs before and a bit of mucking around inbetween. This kind of building is accessible to anyone. My main relevant skills were being able bodied, having self belief and perseverance and a mate or two to give a lift now and again."

Delicious Australian Mid-Century Home - Interior Design 2016

This stunning Mid-Century property is home of Doula Sunni Hart and her family and is in Eltham, Melboune. It is also probably my dream home..... all that yummy wood!! It was designed by Australian Builder and architect Alistair Knox. What I really love about this and other midcentury homes is the abundance of light coming through those huge windows.

A Dreamy Californian Home - Interior Design 2016

I stumbled upon this dreamy Californian home on Instagram about a week ago and although it is a bit show home perfect in these pictures there is no denying it really is a well put together stunner!!

The home is designed by Architect Fred Blacksmith and is owned by Photographer and teacher Laura Olden who lives here in Escondido, California with her dog Novo.

There are so many beautiful photos and videos on her Instagram account Savagehouse1970 so if you like this little selection I urge you to check out the rest

Emma's Off Grid Pembrokeshire home - Interior Design 2016

Emma's Pembrokeshire Hay Bale home

How glorious is this little earthen home in Wales?

Owner Emma built this beautiful little home for only £1000 using a straw bale, house manure and cob construction with a fabulous living roof which not only provides shelter but keeps the little house a hidden gem from the outside world. The house is comprised of just one room and is totally off-grid with no electricity or running water. Instead Emma collects spring water from a nearby steam and uses candle and the open fire to light her home at night. She has a compost loo and uses the stream to wash.

Emma has lived off this land for over 20 years in a series of homes that she has built, some more successful structures than others that she has built using a trial and error method. She  previously lived in a farm house on the land with her late husband and children. When the children flew the nest Emma felt comfortable to move out of the farm house and live closer to nature building herself this little home.

I really would urge you to check out the interview with Emma over at Living Big in a Tiny House where these beautiful pictures come from.

Shelter Loves... - Interior Design 2016

I typically post what I'm loving on Fridays but this week, it's coming to you today. I've been feeling inspired lately and am working on an array of exciting projects. Here's what is exciting me today. I hope your week is going well! xx

  1. I've always loved Jackie's timeless style. White kick flare pants, big sunnies and a slim fitting black t-shirt has never looked so chic.
  2. Hand made brass sinks. I have one being made for a project right now and can't wait until it arrives on site.
  3. I like to embrace this concept.
  4. The fixtures from this company. I may order one for a kitchen design that I am working on. Fingers crossed the client agrees.
  5. Lisa Eisner jewelry. Her pieces are wonderfully sculptural. When people ask if I was not an interior designer, what would I be? My answer: a jewelry designer or a dermatologist creating skin care.
  6. This season's dresses from A.L.C. their prints are fabulous and throw back to the 70's, just look at this beauty. Here is the link for the dress pictured, I love the neckline.
  7. I'm going to begin my gardening this weekend. This year, I've decided to separate my veggies and cutting garden. I like how the black beds look here. I'd love to build one more and stain it black. (in my spare time)
