Love the look - transitional fall style - Interior Design 2016

It's usually crisp and cool by late September in New England, at least in the morning and evenings, but this year? It feels more like an extension of August! I can't believe I am saying this but I'm looking forward to wearing sweaters and sipping hot toddies. I always appreciate the short season between summer and brisk fall when I can wear transitional clothing and not freeze or sweat my ass off. I'm loving this look and will be wearing it myself for as long as possible. Faithfull The Brand has some great pieces! A few of the items listed are from Shopbop - they are currently having a three day sale that you won't want to miss! Cheers! xx

My home - Exterior paint choices - Interior Design 2016

Hello, hello...So glad to be able to sit and blog today! I shared this photo of my kiddos on insta the other day. We had just gotten back from flag football, hence my son's sweaty forehead! The gallery wall is also a work in progress but the real story here is I'm finally getting new windows and redoing the front of my little ranchola!! I can't wait to dive in and paint the facade, the problem is, it's a simple home architecturally but I still want it to look gorgeous. I thought I'd share my thoughts, feel free to chime in on what you like for color schemes!! I will share paint chip ideas tomorrow. I can make decisions for my clients no problem but for my own home?? Not so much. Thoughts?? xx

Body of the house:

 - I am either going with  1. White or 2. Pale Grey
Here are some nice examples. The next question is to add shutters back on or go without. I am leaning towards shutters. I typically love white houses with black shutters on classic homes but I am not sure how I feel about it on my home.

            White facade:

White with grey shutters (this is soft and pretty)

Warm white with blue grey shutters

Pale Grey with black shutters:
(this cape is adorable)

Now onto the door color choice. I currently have a black door. I love glossy black doors but because my house is simple, I think I'd like to differentiate it with a pop of color on the door. I am also not married (as most of you know) so I am not dealing with a guy's opinion either. I currently have a black storm door with a glass insert. (which I absolutely need in Boston during the cooler months)

Door choices
(it will be in a high gloss paint)

A rich glossy blue (not navy)

Coral

Glossy black - my entrance is far from this stunning!!

 Pink
(this shade is pretty perfect)

Pale blue

Shelter loves - Interior Design 2016

Hello Friday 💗. With no meetings on tap today, I honestly could have worked from the comfort of my bed. It's been windy and rainy all week and we are all ready for some sun shine up in here! Besides the hilarious posts on Man Repeller , here's what else made me happy this week!

1. I design a lot of kitchens, I'm always searching for new inspiration that has not been shared everywhere.. This kitchen is so cool, I also appreciate a house that looks lived in..Don't you??
2. I need, want and must get a signet bag. This green and snake skin version is dynamite!!
3. I am always on the hunt for a boot with a narrow shaft calf but now wider boots are all the rage. This version reminds me of something my Mom would have worn in the 80's but I'm sort of digging the change and look.
4. Which brings me to number three, the boots in number in numero two would look fab just like this! You could rock a trash bag Olivia!!
5. God I love gorgeous flowers...I think I'd get married again just to choose the flowers..(kidding of course) this arrangement is so textural and interesting!
6. I am not saying don't consider others but by all means consider your happiness too. Nuff said.
7. UMMMM, Giovanna is the master of chic and cool.. I have been watching her all over fashion the "weeks". Her street attire is usually my favorite! She wore this look during NY fashion week. I still LOVE me some leopard. This dress and you Giovanna, are phenom.
xx

Hibernation Season.... - Interior Design 2016

Although I am always sad to leave the long warm days of summer behind by this time of year I am more than pleased to get my blankets down from on top of my wardrobe, snuggle up and take full advantage of the lazy days of the hibernation season .... for those of you not quite ready, here are some lovely textiles to make the transition a little easier...

Love the look - Fall 2017 trend report - Interior Design 2016

I honestly get my inspiration from all over the place so it's tough to pin point a few sources....I do however, spend a good deal of time googling and searching Insta and Pinterest with certain phrases, two being = Paris fashion and NY street style. I don't love the cold but I must admit I'm kind of excited to layer and mix my clothes this Fall. I approach my outfits and rooms with the same panache. Chances are if you bump into me on the street during the colder months I'll have some sort of sweater, scarf + funky jacket combo on! I'm also itching to rip apart my closet and reorganize. Here are the hot Fall and Winter trends I'm seeing everywhere! Scoop them up while you can! They're good this year. xx

- PLAID + CHECKS
- DENIM, DENIM AND MORE DENIM
- TUCKED IN SWEATERS - see inspiration image!
- CHERRY RED - I DON'T WEAR LOTS OF THIS SHADE BUT I DID SAVE A SWEET PAIR OF CHERRY RED CORDS I OWN. I AM HAPPY ABOUT THIS  MOVE! I AM THINKING THEY'LL BE PERFECT WITH SOME SLOUCHY BOOTS - GAH!
- FAUX FUR JACKETS AND VESTS - A PERSONAL GO TO FOR ME
- CHIC LEATHER
- POLKA DOTS
- SHEARLING
- LAYERED LINGERIE UNDER JACKETS AND SWEATERS
- THE PUFFER
- STATEMENT SUNNIES

Cottage Love #58 - Interior Design 2016

I love when I come across a welcoming cottage style home such as this one. When Fall arrives and the reality of the cooler weather set in, I find myself looking for ways to make my own home a bit cozier.  I thought the simplicity and way she displayed her objects was very thoughtful. I also realize we all live in different size homes and have various budgets so my aim is to feature an array of abodes and looks.

Geodesic Artic dome with a cob house inside..... - Interior Design 2016

Geodesic Artic dome with a cob house inside

I love this 2 in one house, a geodesic dome with a cob house inside, and that view...

The house belongs to the Hjertefølgers and their 4 children, who moved in, in 2013. The geodesic dome protects the cob house and the inner garden from the elements. The inner cob home will always be okay as long as it is kept dry.

Love the look - Interior Design 2016

It's funny how some weeks just flow better than others, all around this has been a great week! The kids are doing well with school and their numerous sports and I am feeling extra creative and working on some cool projects... I think checking out all the amazing "street style" in NYC for Fashion week certainly helped. I'll be sharing the Spring/Summer 2018 trends, what the looks were on the street and my favorites on Monday. This is a snap shot of two very real and approachable outfits from NYFW.  I am all for thinking out of the box with uber chic looks but somewhat livable is realistic for everyday!! I would wear every one of these pieces ALL FALL long. xx

1. Funky sunnies are very "in", I can't go too crazy because I want them to remain flattering.. The side detail on this Burberry pair is fun! They are also on SALE.
2. A classic black sweater with a twist is always a good idea. This is an extra 30% off from J. Crew.
3. Did you get the memo? Large hoops are back! Very 1990!!
4. Vintage versions are my favorite but this James Jeans version works.
5. I am loving the rich color of this Rag and Bone bucket bag!
6. These Gucci slides are pricey but would last a life time.

This is also a great every-day sweater. The price is right too!

High Gloss... - Interior Design 2016

Happy Wednesday! I think you are either a high gloss person or you aren't! I personally like to mix high gloss with matte in my designs for a transitional look. Mixing elements such as glossy with a matte creates more variety and more variety = a better design!

One of the first things I shared when I taught Interior Design in Boston were the Principles and Elements of interior design. Although, I no longer have time to teach design, I thought I'd start a short series this Fall that shares those tips and tricks. Over the next six weeks, I'll be creating a post discussing one of the six principles.
One way to add emphasis and interest to a room is vary the elements within. I find my clients and people in general are taking more risks with their homes. I say start small and try something new in one room. Trust me, you'll be happy with the results. A hot trend us designers have been using for a while is covering a room, ceiling or piece of furniture with a super high gloss finish.  In small doses, I LOVE this idea. Many clients opt to have painters spray entire rooms with this high gloss process. It delivers a very similar result to lacquer. Here are some beautiful examples of what I am talking about...just be sure your surface is in good shape, the glossier the finish the more details show (or shine)!

The white is so cool!! This is becoming very popular on the Cape and Islands!

This is my kind of mudroom!
I'm going to paint my front door in high gloss this Fall! I recommend using Fine Paints of Europe - Hollandlac finish. This color is gorgeous!!

Trim in high gloss
A hidden peek of high gloss is amazing too!
Kitchen cabinets!

This ceiling is soooo good!
I used this exact color (Ben Moore - Slate Teal 2058-20) on kitchen chairs in high gloss, they turned out 👌👌👌
