Shelter Loves.. - Interior Design 2016

Hello, hello! I'm sharing last week's inspiration today! I'm just noticing I posted an array of neutrals, clearly I'm channeling a Fall color palette. I hope your week is off to a great start...

1. Classic movies. I'm a bit of a romantic at heart. 'Love Story' is on my list of movies to watch. Ali MacGraw was a natural beauty.
2. True. I think we all tend to ruminate about past misgivings and mistakes, aside from lessons learned and knowledge gained, there is no reason to ruin today by analyzing the past. Embrace the good and let go of the negative when you can. xx
3. I love cozy scarfs and pair them with just about everything in the Fall.
4. I can envision myself cooking in this lovely space. Since recently finishing up a kitchen with black cabinets and soapstone counter tops, I've been drawn to dark, moody kitchens. Image: Architectural Digest.
5. This multifunctional purse, by the L.A. based company Hammitt, converts from a cross body bag to a clutch. I adore this one too.
6. Plaid blazers worn with crisp, white button downs.
7.  Kraak ware, was originally produced during China's Ming Dynasty. It was later reproduced in a number of countries, including Japan and was frequently sold to the European market. Kraak ware was most often painted in underglaze blue and white porcelain. Original pieces are quite pricey but with some research reproductions can be purchased for substantially less. Here is a modern day reproduction

Shelter Studio Space - Interior Design 2016

I'm in the process of converting my three season porch into a multi functional work studio. It gets wonderful light all day long. I will share a "before" photo at some point. I replaced the windows and added a new door, the dropped ceiling was torn out and I gained quite a bit of height and had it freshly sheetrocked. I also had the electrician put in some recessed lighting. This will be my new work space but I also want to use it as a den. I love a work space that does not feel too sterile or "office like". Here's a bit of unexpected office inspiration....A huge thank you to my father for his stellar carpentry skills on this project!

Gen Sohr's home office beautifully incorporates warm accents such a upholstered sofa and unique furniture for storage and relaxing. Images via Schumacher Bulletin. I love everything about this room!

The new Studio McGee offices are finished and they are perfect! Warm woods, area rugs and gorgeous furniture choices help to make their spaces both inviting and a wonderful work environment - peep the rest of their amazing office tour, here

Shelter Loves / 9.20.19 - Interior Design 2016

Wishing you a fantastic Friday!! Without a doubt my parent's are inspiration people and two of my greatest "loves". Wishing them a very happy and romantic 50th wedding Anniversary today!! I love you guys!! xoxoxo

and on the creative side...here's what I'm ogling.

1. Anything with a crock embossed pattern, especially in deep olive and rich browns/burgundy. These booties  are by Chloe and AMAZING but these come in a close second
2. Blue Jasper Wedgewood. I am pretty sure my Mom has some of this around. The  bathroom design is by Alexander Interiors is darling....
3. Milan and their fashion week. I had the wonderful opportunity to study retail design in Italy, our home base was Milan. The women were ridiculously chic and fearless with their sense of style.
4. YES! I've been biting my tongue when I feel a bitch session coming on lately.
5. Moody bars, with strong cocktails and live music. I am heading to Dublin in a couple of weeks, I'm excited to explore the city.
6. Historical fiction. I just picked up this book and plan to start it next week. I have always been intrigued by Dorothea Lange's compelling photographs.

Fall color palette - camel, black and cream - Interior Design 2016

Warm neutrals work beautifully year round but are especially appreciated during the cooler New England weather. Crisp, clean black tones add the perfect amount of contrast and interest when paired camel, nutmeg and cream. Today I'm sharing a selection of rooms that beautifully utilize this layered and lovely color palette. This look also translates nicely to your wardrobe.

 and for your closet.

Shelter Loves... - Interior Design 2016

HELLO AND HAPPY FRIDAY!! I love my career but boy do Fridays always feel good. Here's what is on my radar this week! Enjoy the gorgeous weekend.

1.  I always like to add a few vintage pieces to my projects, vintage lighting is a fantastic way to introduce a gorgeous element. I did a similar fixture in a recent project. Find this one here. 1970 is considered vintage I guess??! lol
2. I appreciate stylish sneakers, they serve two functions: they look cool and they are comfortable. I used to wear them with wide leg suits in my 20's (which is still a thumbs up idea). They can be worn with almost any style! These are my next Fall purchase.
3. Amen.
4. New York was full of creative people for Fashion week Spring/Summer 2020. Look for neon, sheer materials, more animal prints and British plaids next Spring. Street style snaps are my favorite. Photo by: Tyler Joe for Elle. See the beautiful neon shades out this Fall here
5. Caned furniture....
6. Hand-blocked bedding. These layer well with stripes and other prints. These are from a French shoppe.

Current Crush: Lucia LaFerme and her botanical dyes - Interior Design 2016

Lucia LaFerme natural botanically dyed french linen bedding and silk pillowcases
Californian based bodyworker and natural dye enthusiast Lucia LaFerme has become a bit of a Instagram crush of mine recently, with her scrumptious plant dyed silk self care sleep kits and Botanically dyed French Linen Bedding. Her instagram page is unsurprisingly also a visual feast and I love to see little glimpses of artists home life, especially when its as beautiful as Lucia's.

I have included below a selection of her beautiful pictures, and although Lucia does dye in colours other than yellows and oranges with Autumn on its way have decided to stick to this glorious glowing warm orange. I urge you to check out her work and visit her shop either via her instagram or via her online shop LuciaLaferme.com.

Inspired by Lucia's work I have just before submitting this post made myself a turmeric dye bath for my string shopping bag.... wish me luck!!

Go Bold.... - Interior Design 2016

Wow! It's so nice to be back at my desk full time! I know that sounds crazy..I am feeling  inspired lately. I also have some VERY exciting projects finishing up and in the works. As most of my readers and clients know, I'm not afraid to use color or mix patterns. I find layered, unexpected homes excite me. Cameron Ruppert's work is cheery and bold. Playing it too safe in life and design can get, well: BORING...Here's some colorful inspiration on this Tuesday morning.
