Happy New Year + setting intentions...... - Interior Design 2016

On New Year's Eve, I typically share my thoughts, reflect on the past year and set intensions for the year ahead. It's safe to say we all had highs and lows during 2020, I also feel we collectively shared struggles (remote learning), goals, safety concerns and hopes.

Sending love and light to anyone who suffered a loss this year. I also wanted to take a moment to thank everyone on the front lines in the healthcare field, who tirelessly continue to work exhaustive hours caring for the sick. You are truly heroes.

My reflections and intentions are fairly simple this year. My business continued to prosper in 2020. I am beyond thankful for my wonderful clients, unique projects and the creative escape. I'm going to do my best to focus on the good and stay positive as we head into 2021. Mindset is a very powerful tool.

Wishing you and yours a healthy, joyous, prosperous New Year. Thank you for the
ongoing support. I truly appreciate you all.

1. For the month of January my sister and I are embarking on a running challenge. Feel free to join in! Our plan is to run at least one mile EVERY single day of the month. I'll then keep up the habit and run at least 2-3 days a week all year. After the gym abruptly closed in March, I began jogging outdoors more often and found the fresh, cold air invigorating. I will continue with spin class, once or twice a week as well. I kicked off 2020 with a weekly spin class session, it was a life changing mood booster that I hope to never give up.. I will also incorporate mindfulness and meditation into my weekly routine.

2. Tune into more educational podcasts and books on audible. At the beginning of the year, I was reading a book or two a month. I hope to commit to setting down the phone and reading before bedtime more often. (If I can keep my eyes open)

3. Save money and donate items that I no longer use. My goal is to clear needless clutter from my home..(basement)

4. Practice patience and work on understanding others' perspectives without judgment or reaction.

5. Continue to support small businesses of all types, including restaurants and artisans.

6. I recently heard the term "abundance mindset". It's the practice of staying positive, believing in and focusing on the limitless opportunities available in life. It also embraces the realization that you are enough! (this is often a tough one for many people, including myself) Abundant thinking is centered around focusing your energy on the good in life and what you have as opposed to what you don't have. The concept stems from gratitude, appreciation and knowing that you can and will continually achieve personal growth. An abundance mindset leads to a more creative and inspired life.......I think we can all toast to that! xxx

Shelter Loves... - Interior Design 2016

I hope you had a festive holiday regardless of the ODD year! I'm listening to music and cleaning up the holiday gifts. I'm want a fresh, clean house and will be adding some new details this winter while we're stuck inside. Hope you're staying healthy....Here's what I've been pinning lately.

1. Beautiful Swedish desserts and cakes

2. We are all spending more time at home and I've been designing and eyeing beautiful but functional libraries/home offices.

3. This Scalamandre grass cloth wallpaper.

4. I watched the HBO documentary on Ralph Lauren, he built his business from the ground up. I admire his philosophy on style.

5. Classic outfits with an edge are my favorite. A medium heeled boot can make anything look chic. I have my eye on these

Jessica Alba at home - Interior Design 2016

Aside from my career choice and daily delve into inspiring interiors, I have also been revamping some things around my own home. With an abundance of time stuck inside this year plus sans travel, it's hard not to mix up my interiors. A few of the changes have not entailed acquiring new items but reworking what I already own. Are you feeling a shift and need for change at home?? Are you accomplishing more?

I'm continually seeking fresh inspiration..Jessica Alba's home, in an issue of AD, recently caught my attention. I can't fail to mention how great Jessica's Honest Co. line is. I slather this natural oil ,all over my face, every day. Design by Clements Design

Molly Weasley and The Burrow - Interior Design 2016

"The walls were decorated with artwork drawn by children of the
art department crew, and the prevailing color palette reflected
the ginger-topped Weasleys' obvious favorite colors: red and orange."

My son is just 6, and although I really wanted to read the books with him first, my excitement ran away with me one rainy lockdown day a few weeks ago, and we started watching the Harry Potter films.

A few days later a friend asked me what character from a film I found I resonated with and why...... and to my surprise confidently poppoing up from my unconscious was the answer "Molly Weasley"!

The why part of the question started with the thought that she lived in 'The Burrow', probably my  true dream home. A home build on love........ cooked-from-scratch family meals, shabby old chairs covered in knitted throws, mis-matched crockery, wonky stairs, thread bare carpets covered with rugs, book shelves with the books squashed back in any free space... and then I recognised that actually this house and person resembled my own..... I even have a long haired ginger son.

“We wanted everything - from the furniture through to the
crockery on the kitchen table - to look as if it had been bought
in second-hand shops, picked up at swap meets, or rescued from curbs.” - Stephenie McMillan

Its funny how through re-visiting films and books we notice the passing of time and the change in us. We are not the same person as we were first time around. I always thought of myself as Ginni Weasley in the past.....

Whether you consider yourself an athlete or not, the pros of working out are incredible, especially during stressful times .  2020 has been a challenging sh*t show but I do think positives arise during times of adversity. Giving Thanks... - Interior Design 2016

(image: My 2019 table)

This year has been a challenge, to say the least. With that said, I think it has also been a year of growth and reflection. I aim to live with gratitude daily. There are so many things in life to be thankful for, our health and well being are at the top of that list.. Humans are resilient; times of adversity are often when transformations and true appreciation occur.

I am grateful for YOU, my wonderful readers. I hope to spend more time blogging and will be giving this site a much needed face-lift soon.. My design business is thriving and my family is healthy... I am unbelievably grateful for that.

Wishing you and your loved ones moments of joy, gratitude and peace this Thanksgiving Day. xx

Shelter - Style Edit - Sweaters - Interior Design 2016

I think it's safe to say we're all dressing a bit more casually these days. I still pull together cohesive outfits for design meetings but am finding that comfort is key, even outside of the home. I love the art of dressing in the Fall. Layered looks are both warm and textural.

Today, I'm sharing two options with soft sweaters. One is with a cardigan and gorgeous silk blouse, the second features a crewneck paired with a crisp cotton top. Complete the look with your favorite jeans/black pants, accessories and a camel coat. I'll be sharing my gift guides beginning this Wednesday! Eek.
