Patio Style - Interior Design 2016

Aside from my weekly grocery shop and a daily run on nice days, I haven't left home much. I know we're all in the same boat and experiencing this together. I'm am designing a patio project "remotely" for a client and have been working on that, scheming and day-dreaming of my own outdoor projects today. I'm excited to plant and create a welcoming yard when the weather warms up in Boston! Here are five tips for creating a beautiful patio, regardless of the size or location. I hope you enjoy this escape as much I loved gathering the images. All outdoor furniture on FrontGate is 25% off today.

1. Comfortable seating for socializing.

2. Beautiful flowers and greenery both on around the perimeter and in planters

3. Warm lighting and candles - I prefer incandescent bulbs!

4. Tables large or small for placing drinks and food

 5. A mix of materials and finishes adds warmth and depth

Under the Oak :A converted Wagon in Wales - Interior Design 2016

Under the Oak : Convertion in wales . Photo by Iris Thorsteinsdottir

As Wagon conversions go this one is pretty epic! Not only that but it is near my parents in Powis. The best news is the stunning conversion is available for short rentals via Canopy and Stars (this is not a paid post , just throught it would be of interest), the perfect place to retreat in all this current madness..... wht do you think?

The railway wagon was used for many years for nothing more than storage. Fittingly, it now houses a collection of weird and wonderful objects that Jim has collected on his travels round the world as a cameraman. Now that both the wagon and the owners have settled a little, the transformation from railway carriage to living space has been completed.

A full length glazed wall gives lovely views out to the commons and a 6ft 6” square bed invites you to spread out. The wagon’s original ironwork has been used to make some of the fittings and the dark wood, also remaining from the original construction, gives a lovely rich feel. The wagon has gas hobs, a camping toaster and a Weber BBQ, plus a firepit and log seats outdoors. The washing up sink, prep area, fridge and other another gas ring are outside, undercover at the end of the wagon.
Under the Oak is tucked between two barns and screened by trees from Jim and Jude’s other project, Under the Ash, a converted showman’s wagon. Each have their own private compost loo and share a hot gas-powered shower, which are about 10 yards from both spaces. Although they are quite close together and near the cottage, every effort has been taken to give them their own areas and Jim & Jude’s friends have been enjoying staying there for years.

Shelter Loves - 3.27.20 - Interior Design 2016

Hello Friday! It is Friday, isn't it? 😉 I don't have my kids today or this weekend, the lack of human interaction is very real when you are home alone for days on end. I've been talking to my cat and self quite a bit. I hope you and your loved ones all staying healthy. I keep telling myself that we'll be looking back on this historic moment someday. I've been listening to a ton of music and have been mixing up the genres. I've also been watching movies with my kids, it's amazing what I deemed inappropriate six months has basically gone out the window. (Ear muffs, kids). I just can't stomach too many animated movies. We've been focusing on 80's comedies. Thank god for social media and the web, can you imagine if this happened in 1985? If my grandfather was alive, I'd be interested to hear his memories of 1918. I am thankful for our health and all the people risking their own health for the well being of others. Thank you. My latest inspo:      xx

1. The concept of a flower truck is fabulous to me. If I were independently wealthy, I may need to do this. You could set up virtually anywhere and share nature and beauty with the world. Love it!
2. I love discovering new creative Instagram accounts, as mentioned, listening to music is a favorite for me too. I discovered Lily's account, she is adorable and a very talented trumpet player.
3. Athena's Amagansett home and refresh is gorgeous. I adore unique furniture and a modern earthy color palette...This chair is on my radar
4. Pretty undergarments, they look lovely layered under sweaters and t-shirts.
5. I'm looking forward to wearing pretty dresses this summer.
6. YES!

Gratitude Lists and the small details - Interior Design 2016

Gratitude lists and the small details: Toadstool door Knocker via Instagram

Okay so I am not going to lie, since my last post I have been caught up in a bit of an existensial funk......... and after promising to post more havent really been in the headspace to do so....

When everything is ticking along nicely I float from my little family to college , work to outdoor spaces, cups of tea in cafes to the Buddhist centre to mooching around charity shops (thrift stores). Its not very exciting but simplicty works for me and keeps my mind steady.
Small deatils, Star door handles

Now the rug has been removed, like everyone else I have become a little unsteady..... and for a little while abadndoned (or forgot) my tools to calm my mind. Maybe I just needed time to ruminate, think of poor outcomes for my loved ones and worse case scenarios at work (a nurse in the hospital)........so they could be released, captured and analysed, labelled, passified and then put safely in a box and stored.

I am at the passified stage right now.......making the desent down from the clouds. Spring is in the air and new life is budding, I have my happy, bouncy, sensitive little boy home for the foreseeable, which feels like such a luxury..... building dens in the trampoline and cuddling up with a book under a blanket is pure heaven. The little fruits on my citrus tree are turning orange. The skys are clear without the airplanes flying in and out of Bristol airport. I have some wonderful friends.... and have discovered Zoom and Skype........

Simply........ it is all in the details. It is the small moments that matter, the little wins. The sunshine pouring in through the gap in the curtains , the autumn turning the leaves warm orange and the sound of stepping on the crispy frost on the grass. I am so glad I am rembered. So grateful for......well..... gratitude lists.

I would love to hear some of your gratitudes, either on here or on Instagram, if you would share...

Love the look - stay home workout - Interior Design 2016

I hope you're all staying healthy and sane. I'm working as much as I can, blogging and exercising. Exercise has always kept me grounded, healthy and now with the peanut-butter M&M and nightly wine consumption, I'm trying not to miss a day. I've been doing yoga and have been running outside. My daughter loves to ride her scooter in front of me, while I jog. It's as if I have my own personal trainer! I'm not going to pretend that I've put jeans on once since our "stay home" orders. I have however, been exhausting my workout gear. Here are some of favorite looks and pieces to wear at home or out for a daily run. A number of these items are on-sale.. Every time I start to feel stressed about our current health crisis and situation, I think of Anne Frank and her family, then I feel grateful for our health. We'll get through this. xx

Coming home. - Interior Design 2016

Since 80% of the world is currently waiting out this pandemic in their house, I thought it would be nice to share a lovely and calming home with you all. I've been doing quite a bit of contemplating about what defines and creates comfortable environments. Although, everyone has their own aesthetic and taste, I continually hear from clients that they desire a cozy, inviting space to come home to at the end of a hectic day. I've long followed Amber Lewis' design journey; her laid back, Southern California inspired designs are always organic, unique and cohesive. Each detail is carefully considered and beautifully contributes a calming quality. I've been spending some much needed time organizing, refining and decluttering my own home. I love spaces that feel beautiful and interesting but also peaceful.

I thought you'd enjoy seeing one of Amber's latest designs, the brushed metals, window selections, mix of textiles/textures and warm wood tones are gorgeous. I'd be fine with sheltering in place here for a while. Stay safe and healthy. xx Photos: Tessa Neustadt
