Shelter Loves - Interior Design 2016





Posting my loves for the week means it's Friday and I am winding down a busy week. I typically feel very productive on Fridays..Here's what I've been eyeing lately. Happy Weekend. xx

1. This beautiful camel Arne Norell chair - The Ari - Sweden, 1966.
2. John Lubbock.
3. The Paper Kites - I often work to this Australian band, their sound is moody and melodic.
4. Lizzie Fortunato jewels.
5. I often purchase shoes from European brands, I love the quality and fit. These versatile boots are on my winter wish list.  
6. Fluting details, especially when incorporated into furniture and kitchen designs. 
7. French designer, Jean Royere's elegant lighting designs from the 30's and 40's.

Shelter Loves.. - Interior Design 2016


This color coordinated post was NOT intentional, ha! I grabbed my favorite snaps from the week and voila, very fall inspired. I am more of a perfectly imperfect person, anyway...Here's what I rounded up this week. Happy October.

September was very good to us in Boston. The weather is predicted to cool down in the next week or so. I'm trying to be deliberate about my purchases and honor mindful consumption. The goal is not to over buy but to continue to build a classic, updated wardrobe with an edge and good quality selections...Here are my choices for the Fall. I'm also loving sweater dresses and oversized shirt coats (as long as they are not itchy!!). xx

Ceramics by Rory Foster - Interior Design 2016

I love ceramics. Ever since I first had a go on the wheel at 12 I have been in awe of the whole process, from the raw material coming out of the earth, the process of making and waiting and the finished piece.A lesson in patience.

Last week Rory Foster's work popped up on my instagram feed and my heart skipped a beat. Those colours and patterns!!!! A visual delight :)

In the fall of 2017, I changed careers and shifted my world into the magical land of pottery. I had never worked with clay or glazes before, but soon realized it was something I absolutely loved. I have practiced it every single day since.

Each piece begins as a slab of high-fire stoneware clay which I hand-build into its final shape. The pieces are then bisque fired and sanded to create a canvas for my favorite part: the design and glazing. My designs are inspired by both nature and negative space in objects. I start with a shape or line and move from there, always with a desire to create movement. Anything from nature—landscapes, sunsets, insects, and birds—guide my choice of colors.

Due to the nature of how I create each piece, they are completely one of a kind—the shape, imperfections, design, and color. Each piece is a result of building on learned skills and trying something new.

I absolutely love what I do and am so grateful that I get to share it with the world.

Scrumptious Living Rooms.... - Interior Design 2016

 


I was blown away by the lovely response from you guys after my last post. It was actually very motivating to carry on. 

So today, as there is finally an Autumn chill in the air here in Bristol, I am bringing you some yummy cozy living rooms. perfect tea drinking and book reading spots!! Just what I need as today is my first day back at university and I have plenty of catching up to do!

Heather Culp's Topanga Canyon home - Interior Design 2016

 With the news that instagram maybe going video only I have had some thinking to do. There is no way I am going to be sharing videos. So I thought it maybe time to reactivate the blog.


But it's a strange thing....blogging. I never really felt like I had anything to say. I just posted other peoples pictures of other peoples homes, but for a while this blog was drawing in over 100k visitors a month. I got offers to work for famous brands and style peoples houses.... I never did. I don't know what people thought I was but I was never confident enough to be that person. In truth... I felt like a bit of an imposter. I was just a lover of other peoples houses, and I loved looking though websites to find dreamy secluded homes.


Now having been away for sometime I am able to see Moon to Moon for what it is... a place to share the places that make me feel calm. Homes that reject societies ever increasing push for modern matching kitchens and straight from the store, mass produced plastic tatt.... you can even buy mass produced faux-handmade-mugs.... what's that about? Why would you not want to support an actual artist for £5 more!!

Moon to Moon has always been about slow living. Over the last year and a half covid has reminded me that I am a typical earthy Tauren... a real home bod! I am happiest sat at my dinning room table on my antique victorian wooden armchair, feet up on the table with a cuppa surveying my tiny plant filled home and garden pondering life and giggling with my family.

And I think that is where Moon to Moon will continue to go... to other places where I would be happy with my cup of tea, and to other people I would be happy to share a pot of tea with.


So todays offering to you all is the home of the rather talented Photographer Heather Culp, who is also one of the co-founders of Mercado Sangrido. Her Topanga Canyon home is small but perfectly formed. Natural wood and light.... what a dream. 

In Heather's own words

"Although technically in Los Angeles my home feels far away from the city on its mountaintop perch overlooking the ocean in Topanga Canyon. It feels spacious with the indoor/outdoor aspect and amazing views but in reality it’s a simple one room cabin so I had to get creative to make the space cozy. I downsized considerably, keeping only my most precious collectables and putting some of my books into storage. I have a dog – an Aussie, and it’s a dusty environment so using mostly earth tones and layered vintage blankets, linens and sheepskins that can be shaken out often has worked well. My bathroom seemed a bit dismal at fist but now I really love it —it’s like an outdoor shower inside, filled with numerous plants and the occasional frog!"


I would happily wake up and make a cup of coffee and stare out at that amazing view.

Shelter Loves... - Interior Design 2016




I'm REALLY trying to carve out time to blog more often. I'm actually going to have the entire page revamped and that will entail moving the site, so stay tuned for more information on that development. I typically share what's creatively on my mind closer to the end of the week but it's coming to you today (because I had time). Hope you're enjoying this lovely September, it's so nice to see the award shows and Galas back in full swing. The Met Gala red carpet did not disappoint last night. Eek. 

1. There were a number of looks that I loved last night. I'm sharing my favorite. Kaia Gerber looked stunning and wore a classic ball gown, the best part? Her gown was a gorgeous reference to Bianca Jagger's Dior version, worn to the Met Gala in 1981. GAH. 




2.  Kitchens without walls of traditional cabinetry and upper cabinets. I also am loving square islands and am in the process of helping design an amazing kitchen. My wonderful client has style for days... 
3. Straw flowers. I picked a bunch over the weekend and they are making me very happy this week. 
4. Let go and enjoy the crazy journey. (I am working on this)
6. Plaster lighting, this is a Julie Neill creation
7. J. Crew  has a new head of women's design at the helm. Their site and pieces have been looking good lately. They also reworked their entire cashmere collection. It's lovely and so buttery soft. I picked up two new sweaters last week. I'll share them on Insta later today. This versatile zipper neck is next on my wish list. My goal is to make intentional purchases this Fall - less stuff but better quality. 
8. Mules! I rarely wear heels to project site meetings. I'm either removing my shoes on site or dodging electrical cords.

Shelter Loves ...... - Interior Design 2016


Here you go, hotties. My faves at the moment. Sending healthy vibes and warm weekend wishes to you all. xx 

1. I saw Rufus du Sol by some miracle, in the fifth row, at Red Rocks last week. It was their kick off night for the tour!! We had an insanely good time. I love their latest release. 

2. Natural, unfussy hair. You will never see me with perfectly curled/sprayed hair, ever. 

3. Carolyn Murphy and cozy cashmere sweaters, preferably in white or black. Here's a good one

4. Agreed.

5. I have wanted to build a house for as long as I can remember. I am setting my sights on this goal. I want a clean, warm, inviting space with zero clutter. This bathroom fits the ideal.

6. I prefer warm weather to cold weather but I do love myself a good bootie. ;)

7. I'm finishing up a lounge room in my home and may pull the trigger on a vintage Richard Hersberger chair in a camel leather.

Shelter Loves - Interior Design 2016




There is something very peaceful about Sunday mornings. I cherish the quiet time at home and usually listen to music, read, clean or cook a healthy breakfast. Today, I was able to spend a few minutes to reflect on the past week and what I've been eyeing or thinking of......xx

1. LSD's lovely Southhampton's home is the perfect blend of vintage and new...It's inviting and cozy. Image via: Vogue. I have an affinity for vintage artwork. 
2.  The Nordstrom Anni sale is going on. I'll pull together and share my picks tomorrow. These sunnies may end up in my card though. 
3. Sezane is exhibiting and selling some wonderful art,,,,I may need this print in my life. The frame was the perfect choice.
4. Travertine furniture. I'm making some change around here. My sofa is currently being recovered and I may need this table to join my living room mix.
5. My August spotify playlist. See below or follow me on Spotify. I share a new "mixed" tape monthly. I have about five concerts this month, I've selected songs from most of them. 
6. Pippa Holt kaftans support women, and an art form. See and read more about Pippa's mission here
7. Amen.
8. I'll be doing some traveling this month and would like to get a new suitcase. I've been eyeing this line, they are made from recycled plastic!

Shelter loves... - Interior Design 2016


1. Topiaries + terracota
2. I am a music junkie. I create random monthly playlists that are a collection of an array of songs and genres of music. 
3. Spa like bathrooms with showers walls created from slabs of marble. 
4. LOVE. This is Athena Calderone of Eye Swoon's gorgeous bathroom. (see additonal images below)
5. Mules are my go to work shoe. I am often sneaking my way past wires and tools on job sites, plus I am on my feet a lot. 
6. These are my "go to" denim cut offs. They are comfy and flattering on all body types. They are also not too short and run a bit large for that easy going summer look...
7. I love photography that captures beautiful architecture. Books are a constant source of inspiration and escapism for me. This image is by Reinhard Gorner. 
8. Green and more greens. I try to eat as clean as possible during the week but sometimes do not eat enough greens, these packets do the trick!
 
** These pants are another recent purchase...they are super flattering and fit like a glove....

Style edit - favorite summer pieces.... - Interior Design 2016


Hola! I had a hectic but very productive three days in Houston....It was hot as hell, as you can imagine.

Summer seems to be in full swing in Boston too. Today, I'm sharing my favorite summer staples and hoping the flight attendant comes by again to refill my wine. The AC seems to be broken on the plane. (oh, the joys the ups and downs of travel)..
