What's up birdies! Holy sh*t, this day could not get here fast enough. I know I usually try to spread positive mojo around on Shelter but I can't sugar coat this week! It blew. (I know there are far greater issues in the world than my own but stress is stress) I am so happy to see Friday and am pretty psyched about all the gorgeous visual things going on in the world. Here are my top picks to end this week of a GOOD note!!!
1. I have a thing for most animal prints. This shirt is ON SALE. Grab yours before I do!!! It's so versatile - with jeans, over a dress, with shorts, mixed with hot pink. I could go on.
2. I may be dating myself but remember when hoops were all the rage? They are back! These are super fun and summery feeling.
3. I would love an open floor plan similar to this!! I did flip my entire living room around this week. I'm liking it!!
4. YES!! Happy Mother's Day to all you mother's, grandmother's and people who take on the great responsibility of mother hood. You are amazing, don't ever forget that!!!! It is the HARDEST job ever but I am grateful for the blessing every day. And if you are working on becoming a mother, I pray your dreams come true! I know all about the waiting game and how painful it can be. xoxo
5. I'm loving this pretty rug! Rugs beautifully transform spaces.
6. I wish my home were larger, I would most likely entertain more often. Be sure to check Moda Operani and Cabana's collaboration and tips on summer party planning.

Beauti-Tone Colour of the Year - You Look Mauvelous - Interior Design 2016
The guest bedroom at my parent's house was in sad need of a facelift. This room was actually my childhood bedroom, and it still had the same bright yellow walls, purple border and matching bedding that I picked out in sixth grade (I've come a long way). On top of that, it had become the 'catch all' space for old Christmas decor, old furniture, and some plain old junk.
When Home Hardware approached me to try out their new Beauti-Tone colour of the year 'You Look Mauvelous', I was a bit hesitant, because as we all know, I am a white walls kind of girl. About as adventurous I like to go is a shade or two off from white. But my parents love colour so I knew this was the perfect opportunity to push myself outside of my comfort limits. I have to say, it is a gorgeous shade- a mauve tempered with enough grey to not be offensive. It looks particularly good against brass, so we accented the room with small brass details.
For the accent pillows, we loved this sweet mauve floral fabric that I had left over from another project. From here, we pulled the teal blue hues to make the scheme more dynamic and lively. This throw by Sarah Richardson Design worked perfectly and added some necessary texture.
I think that the guest room is such a great space to use a bolder hue, because it is not a room that you see all the time and it offers a nice departure from the usual for any guest staying over.
Oh, and in case you are curious about the 'before' (who doesn't love a dramatic transformation?!):
A big thank you to Home Hardware and Beauti-Tone paints for sponsoring this post and for their lovely new colour of the year! It really is Mauvelous.

Curb appeal - front door and porch updates! - Interior Design 2016
When the weather finally turns we begin to focus on our homes both indoors and out. I am planning an early summer refresh of my own home. Today, I'm sharing four ways to create more curb appeal to your home and I have also included a few front door paint color recommendations. I love fabulous front doors and enjoy helping client's choose colors for their home! I may go with a pink front door this summer but if not I'll go with deep blue. Stay tuned!!
Three ways to beautify your entry:
1. Repaint the door. I don't know the exact color of these doors but have recommended a close match.
2. Add a new light fixture. Lighting can instantly change the feel of your entry.
3. Add some planters and flowers.
4. Numbers and a new knocker is a great way to add a personal touch.

Shelter Loves - Interior Design 2016
Happy weekend lovies and it's a goodie. Two of my favorite events happen this weekend. Cinco de Mayo, and Derby Parties! I mean what's better than margarita's and fabulous fashion with the possibility of winning some money? ( I do worry about the horses though). Here is what is on my mind this week!! (plus a hell of a lot more, but I'll save that for another day!!) xoxo
1. I would love to build a house someday, it would have high ceiling, large windows and airy spaces. This dining room is so fresh and clean looking! (one bowl of pasta or a glass of red wine would destroy that rug in a second in my house)
2. These rings are cool!
3. and 4. I have a thing for Derby hats! This Etsy shop sells a number of beautiful choices! I love seeing what everyone wears on Derby day. I am going to pick up a hat in about 30 mins! I am heading to a Derby party tomorrow!
5. This can be hard but I am trying to let go of what I cannot change. You have to trust the wait and embrace the unknown!! If not, we will drive ourselves mad with worry and doubt.
6. This is a beautiful moment of roses and peonies.
7. 💗 Enjoy the simple moments this weekend.

House Tour - A textile guru's NY townhouse - Interior Design 2016
Good afternoon! I am no stranger to textiles and am constantly on the hunt for something new, fresh and not over exposed/done. A cool textile destination that collaborates with an array of designers and artists is NYC's Studio Four. This month Elle Decor has shared the Brooklyn town home of Kate Reynolds, the co owner of Studio Four. She shares her home with her hubby and two children. I'm drawn to her bohemian mix of textiles, wallpaper and the relaxed unpredictability of the design. As a Mom and designer I have to think of not only the look of the fabric but the practicality of it! |
I've been eyeing this wallpaper for a while. It is by Caitlin Mcgauley for Four Studios. |

Gift Guide for Mom - Interior Design 2016
Whether it's your Mom, grandmother, sister, wife or friend, we all know someone who deserves to be celebrated and appreciated on Mother's Day. I've curated a selection of beautiful gift ideas as a way to express your thanks to that special Mom in your life! It's also okay to reward yourself with a little Mom's day love too! (lord knows we deserve it) xoxo
1. These beaded earrings would look gorgeous on any Mama!
2. Spoil your mom with this collection from Beautycounter. It includes a blush duo, a sheer lipstick in rose (that honestly looks amazing on everyone) and a plumping mist spray.
3. Joe Malone's fresh, light scents will soon become a favorite.
4. Because I have yet to meet a woman who does not like to receive jewelry as a gift. I am drawn to the simplicity of this hinged bangle.
5. Colorful clutches are a fun way to switch up your look during the warmer months.
6. I'm loving this organic herb kit for planting and growing.
7. How cute are these? Umm, because this Mommy could not deal without a glass of wine,
8. These custom silhouettes with letter press details are fabulous. I need to have two done for with my children's photos. Through Minted.
9. I love scarfs, they can be worn in so many different ways. This striped beauty is now on my wish list!
