Geodesic Artic dome with a cob house inside

I love this 2 in one house, a geodesic dome with a cob house inside, and that view...

The house belongs to the Hjertefølgers and their 4 children, who moved in, in 2013. The geodesic dome protects the cob house and the inner garden from the elements. The inner cob home will always be okay as long as it is kept dry.

If you want to see more of this beautiful house follow the link to inhabitat.com

Love the look - Interior Design 2016

It's funny how some weeks just flow better than others, all around this has been a great week! The kids are doing well with school and their numerous sports and I am feeling extra creative and working on some cool projects... I think checking out all the amazing "street style" in NYC for Fashion week certainly helped. I'll be sharing the Spring/Summer 2018 trends, what the looks were on the street and my favorites on Monday. This is a snap shot of two very real and approachable outfits from NYFW.  I am all for thinking out of the box with uber chic looks but somewhat livable is realistic for everyday!! I would wear every one of these pieces ALL FALL long. xx

1. Funky sunnies are very "in", I can't go too crazy because I want them to remain flattering.. The side detail on this Burberry pair is fun! They are also on SALE.
2. A classic black sweater with a twist is always a good idea. This is an extra 30% off from J. Crew.
3. Did you get the memo? Large hoops are back! Very 1990!!
4. Vintage versions are my favorite but this James Jeans version works.
5. I am loving the rich color of this Rag and Bone bucket bag!
6. These Gucci slides are pricey but would last a life time.

This is also a great every-day sweater. The price is right too!

High Gloss... - Interior Design 2016

Happy Wednesday! I think you are either a high gloss person or you aren't! I personally like to mix high gloss with matte in my designs for a transitional look. Mixing elements such as glossy with a matte creates more variety and more variety = a better design!

One of the first things I shared when I taught Interior Design in Boston were the Principles and Elements of interior design. Although, I no longer have time to teach design, I thought I'd start a short series this Fall that shares those tips and tricks. Over the next six weeks, I'll be creating a post discussing one of the six principles.
One way to add emphasis and interest to a room is vary the elements within. I find my clients and people in general are taking more risks with their homes. I say start small and try something new in one room. Trust me, you'll be happy with the results. A hot trend us designers have been using for a while is covering a room, ceiling or piece of furniture with a super high gloss finish.  In small doses, I LOVE this idea. Many clients opt to have painters spray entire rooms with this high gloss process. It delivers a very similar result to lacquer. Here are some beautiful examples of what I am talking about...just be sure your surface is in good shape, the glossier the finish the more details show (or shine)!

The white is so cool!! This is becoming very popular on the Cape and Islands!

This is my kind of mudroom!
I'm going to paint my front door in high gloss this Fall! I recommend using Fine Paints of Europe - Hollandlac finish. This color is gorgeous!!

Trim in high gloss
A hidden peek of high gloss is amazing too!
Kitchen cabinets!

This ceiling is soooo good!
I used this exact color (Ben Moore - Slate Teal 2058-20) on kitchen chairs in high gloss, they turned out 👌👌👌

Shelter Loves..... - Interior Design 2016

Hello, hello! I often try to find some time to peruse the Internet for new websites and inspiration I have NOT seen. There was a time when there was a smaller group of us blogging about design, fashion, beauty and entertaining..(the "lifestyle" bloggers)  NOW? There are too many to count or visit. I've been trying to look outward for inspiration and not just on the www. I might not have a million dollars but I do have a nice camera and a creative brain. My goal is to document fresh content and share a few more personalized stories with you all. I've been feeling this way for some time and today I came across Jamie's post. So I guess I am not alone..... I've always appreciated her frankness and unexpected style - if you don't read her Real Raleigh posts - I suggest you do, they are fabulous! Here's what else I have on my mind.......Have a great weekend and I'm thinking of you all down in Florida - stay safe! xoxoxoxo

(from top left to right)

1. I like off beat spaces, ones that don't look like they have been created over night. I refer to them as rooms with soul!! This room's got it. It's not too perfect.
2.  I know army green has been around but I'm still liking it. I have a quilted jacket in black but J. Crew's green version is looking pretty sweet.
3. I have a thing for retro sneakers. I had not seen Stan Smiths in coral...I likey!!
4.  Guilty, guilty, guilty
5. I believe small spaces can be beautifully designed....this mudroom is proof!
6. With all I said above, I am still VERY inspired by all the amazing street fashions during Fashion week!! I'll be posting my favorite outfit from all of them in the weeks to come.

Praying for you Florida. I adore your beautiful, un-commercialized, sandy white beaches.

Love the look - Interior Design 2016

Come Fall you'll usually find me in booties or some kind of flat. I like heels but I prefer comfortable shoes because of my busy lifestyle.  Heels don't make much sense on job sites or soccer fields. Lately I've been wearing driving mocs, not only because they feel good but they look great! I prefer the suede ones but neutral leather and Tod's classic orange ones are adorable too! Here's a round up of my faves.....

1. If you are okay with the price Tod's are the way to go. They are iconic and will always be in style!
2. Prada mocs? Yes please!! Anything Prada reminds me of studying design in Milan.
3. The fringe detail on these adds a nice detail.
4. Tory's version, this comes in solid too.
5. Let's talk for a minute about how awesome M.Gemi shoes are??? This company has so many amazing options and their loafers are bananas cute!
These are The Passare. 7. These are The Felize.
6. Tod perfection.
8. Cole Haan version
Cheers to Thursday!

It is THAT time again. - Interior Design 2016

First off, how is it already September? Secondly, it is always bananas around here. Anyone with school aged children does not even need me to explain why! Every year I tell myself I am going to be more on top of shiz and get super organized. The influx of paper work and sports practices alone are enough to drive a sane person crazy!!! On Monday, while I sat in the ER for six hours with my son (that is a story for another day, just glad he is okay) I came across this article on One Kings Lane. Yes, I know The Life Changing Magic of Tidying up by Marie Kondo has been around for a while and perhaps I have already blogged about it BUT even the smallest tips to help me organize around here during the "back to school bustle" is much appreciated. I loved the editors tips and even more, the photos. I am only going to share a few today!! I started with my daughter's room last night while I was waiting for some water to boil. Here's what I did:

1. PURGED old clothing and items that look dated, stained or did not fit.
2. THE KONMARI VERTICAL FOLD. THIS IS BRILLIANT!!!! I am always digging through my drawers looking for the right t-shirt and my kids create a huge mess doing the same!! I truly hope this helps them. I know it will help me. Last night we fit all of my daughter's leggings (with room to spare) and t-shirts beautifully into three drawers. For now, they look neat and I LOVE the fact that each item is organized and easily seen. No more digging!
3. After you purge and fold you'll have much more space for your pretty, hanging pieces! Marie recommends hanging your favorite pieces so that the line along the bottom slopes upward! Now you're able to actually see your clothing and rediscover your style!!

I did not even use shoe boxes.
Here is the fold

I will still dream of having a large closet similar this one (minus the window treatment) by Melanie Turner designed for a recent client and featured in this month's Veranda magazine. Until then, I'll stick with the easy tips to simplify my life a little!

Shelter Loves...... - Interior Design 2016

I am not sure how it is September 1st already. I hope to squeeze one or two more beach days in. I am never actually ready to say good bye to the summer....I don't have any huge plans this weekend but I do want to get organized around the house and relax. My son has an all weekend soccer tourney, so the sports are in full swing! Here is what I am thinking about today! Have a fabulous weekend...xx

From left to right:

1. My aunt often traveled to England and always brought me home Lady Diana souvenirs when I was a child. I don't want to date myself but I do remember watching her wedding as a little girl. She was an amazing woman, it is hard to believe that it has been twenty years since she passed away. Diana was a wonderful mother, person and philanthropist, her tireless charity work still lives on. She would be proud to see how well her sons have done.
2. I am always inspired by European inspired designs. Lauren Buxbaum Gordon's kitchen is a stunner and feels very Parisian to me.
3. I plan to read the entire article in Veranda this weekend but I have always dreamt of having a cutting garden filled with roses and other blooms. Oprah's is featured in this month's Veranda. It does not disappoint.
4. I love this quote. I need to live it.
5. Dare I say plaid shirt season is almost here?? I do love Fall fashion and this pretty coral top may need to live in my closet. Save 30% on your entire order this weekend with J.Crew.(There are lots of Labor Day sales out there)
