Love the look - cropped wide leg jean - Yay or Nay? - Interior Design 2016

Hola, my lovies! So I've heard and read quite a few mixed reviews on the latest trend: cropped wide leg jeans (aka culottes). Now, if you're like me and were born pre-1985, than you most likely remember culottes. In fact, I think my Mom had a similar pair to the J.Crew pair pictured - (right side). They are everywhere this Spring and when worn correctly, look adorable. I still can't embrace the 'extreme' wide leg version, I'm pretty sure that I would look ridiculous in them. The two pairs worn above look fabulous and work because the top is more fitted and they've been modernized in comparison to their 1970's cousin. Leandra Medine Cohen, seems to rock everything like a champ, even months after having a baby!!

I love Instagram. I have connected with so many like minded souls and also drooled over many accounts. There are of course, the accounts that can leave me feeling a little poop (unfollow!!!), but there are also those that leave me feeling uplifted and inspired. One of the accounts I am loving at the moment is that of Poet and Artist Tess Guinery.

Her beautiful earth toned rainbows are so simple but so pretty and I would love one of these hand painted beauties. Her whole account is full of stunning earth tones, great poetry and happy pictures of family life...... :)

Borrowed Light - Interior Design 2016

The month of May has finally arrived and with that, I am eager to tackle a few long awaited projects inside and out around my home. One of which includes Emerson's room. We have finally agreed on a paint color and possibly even a simple accent wallpaper (I rarely use accent walls but sometimes in a child's room they add depth and interest). I included one image a few months back of Farrow and Ball's dreamy shade: Borrowed Light. Here are some examples and all its glory:

Shelter Loves - Interior Design 2016

Hello all! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Mondays can be a drag but instead, I've been trying to approach the day as a kick off to a great week. I ran out of time to share this post on Friday, I had meetings and spent the balance of the day prepping for my daughter's First Communion on Saturday. I've been inspired by an array of goodies lately, here's the latest:

1. Vintage fashion from beauties such as Brigette Bardot. 
2.  Peasant style and relaxed blouses and pretty much anything from Sezane. I adore this one, it looks SO cute on.
3. Amazing laundry rooms and this particular shade of green/gray..
4. Truth.
5.  Beautycounter sugar scrub and body lotion gift set would make any Mother feel extra special.
6. This feminine bed would finish off any little girl's room.
7. I mentioned that my daughter had her first communion last weekend, we had a perfect day weather wise. I also had her wear a floral head wreath and could not have been happier with how it looked. These girls look precious, it's not often they get to dress up. It was treat for me seeing Emerson! :)

Poolside perfection - Interior Design 2016

I've been slightly obsessed with homes, yards and pools since I was a young child.  I don't have a Shelley's glorious yard but I do dream of owning a pool someday! The design would also have classic roots with glamorous details. Shelley Johnstone Paschke's yard is just that and more. How wonderful would it be to step outside your home in the warmer months and feel as if you are on vacation? Shelly's pink towels were inspired by her stays at La Fontelina hotel in Capri. Homemade: Wood Rub Recipe - Interior Design 2016

Wooden Spoon rub

In my bid to be a little more waste conscious I have come to the conclusion that I really need to start looking after the things I already have.... so I don't need to buy more...... even if I want too :)

One of my little obsessions is wooden utensils, wooden lidded glass jars and crockery. I guess it is reminds me of baking and cooking with my mum as a kid. I was so pleased when, at 18, I left home that my mum donated a couple of her wooden spoons to me...... and was so sad when one cracked a few years ago after being left it in a boiling pan of soup.

I now buy wooden spoons, bowls and plates when ever I come across them in charity shops...... which sadly happens less frequently than I like these days.

So........to protect them I have been meaning to buy some wax for a little while......but decided last week to look up a recipe and to my great delight found that I not only already had all the ingredients required, but it is unbelievably easy to make!!!

After I posted the above picture on Instagram I got a few asks for the receipe so thought I would share it on here..... As it wasn't a planned post I haven't taken any great pictures or indeed any of the making process but it is so easy you won't need them anyway :)


Ingredients:
2 tablespoons Beeswax (try and get the creamy coloured pellets not white as they haven't been beached)
6 tablespoons Coconut oil or Walnut oil (not olive as can go rancid quickly)

Instructions
Over a medium heat double boiler melt the beeswax and oil together, stirring occasionally. Once mixed together and runny pour into a glass jar and wait for it too set

Once your wax/ rub has set use a lint free cloth (I actually used my fingers) to rub a generous amount  into your wooden beauties. Leave overnight  ( or 4 hours if inpatient like me) and then using a lint free cloth buff :) 

Below is a little photo of one of my favourite wooden charity shop finds, a wooden fruit bowl, that shows the before (left) and after (right).... it actually looks a lot more noticeable in 'real life'. It has really brought out the grain out and enhanced the warm red tone of the wood.

Love the look - transitional style - Interior Design 2016

Happy Friday! I saw the Broadway musical 'On your Feet' last night, needless to say I've been singing Gloria Estefan songs all day. It's a fun one if you are looking for a night out. I'm looking forward to pulling my Spring clothing to the front of the closet. Here's the a pretty classic outfit for transitional weather. Have a fabulous weekend. Those are the perfect cropped kick flare jean by the way and the price won't break the bank.
