Good Morning! I had a very successful trip in Chicago with Ace Hardware but after a long week, there is nothing as relaxing as a peaceful Sunday morning. I even got to sleep in, which is a rare treat around here. I was really inspired by all this goodness last week:
1. This fabulous sugar scrub is a BC BEST seller. A few of my friends have been raving about it. I desperately need to exfoliate my and soften up my skin after a long hectic summer....Order here.
2. Fall fashion is my favorite and not many do it better than Giovanna Battaglia. Her style is eclectic but always classic.
3. I usually wear one statement piece with an outfit. This chunky necklace would mix beautifully with a fall palette of caramel, cream and cocoa!
4. Fall is all about transitional pieces for warm or cool weather and layering. I would wear this classic t-shirt under a blazer. I was kicking myself for not having a sweater/jkt to wear at the convention center last week..Brrr I froze my butt off!
5. I'm crazy over black woodwork...I'd love a built in cocktail bar to store all of my glassware and dishes. This would be a dream while hosting a party.
6. Much of the architecture in Chicago is inspired by the Art Deco era. I could admire the intricate details and ornamentation found on many of the buildings all day. This included the hotel I stayed at.
7. Amen

Tea and Me.... - Interior Design 2016
Saffron Buns with Rhubarb and Ginger Jam |
I am not really one for taking seflies and posting them on my Instagram , as among other reasons I am really tragically un-photogenic......
... but scrolling through my feed this morning I discovered one thing I do seem to like doing is taking tea selfies, especially since I stumbled upon my new hand made mug in a local charity shop!
The last couple of years have been super hectic since having a child, and my tri-daily ritual of having a cup of tea is one of my greatest but simplest pleasures in life. A moment to relax and reflect, even if that means (being a naughty mummy) and giving my little one the ipad for a couple of minutes whilst I do so, because I really do NEED my cup of tea.
What are your daily rituals that keep you sane?

Kristen and Derek's Mind blowing Laurel Canyon home - Interior Design 2016
It's not just me is it? This place is mind blowingly awesome!!!
This is the home of Interior designer Kristen Korven and musician Derek James in Laurel Canyon... and it is completely and utterly my dream home....
"Situated on a quiet hillside with a view overlooking the canyon, a tree filled backyard, and wildlife galore, it's easy to forget how close you are to the Hollywood hustle and bustle. Built in 1946, the secluded log cabin home includes three bedrooms, two baths, a loft, a sunroom, and a detached music shed in the yard. The breathtaking chandelier hanging in the high-ceiling main room is original to the home. Kristin and Derek have lovingly restored the property and have done most of work themselves. Derek rebuilt the front deck and the shelving wall housing their records and books in the main room himself. In recent years, the main design focus has been on childproofing the space for their two children, son Jackson and baby daughter Luella."

Beautycounter love..... - Interior Design 2016
So I am so excited to share this news with you all!! As you know here at Shelter I have my own interior design firm and lifestyle blog. I love, love, love sharing creative ideas, interior design moments, gardening, purchases, my own home, fashion and finally beauty products with you! My blog and reading others has not only been a huge source of inspiration for me but proved to be very therapeutic during my painful divorce and an amazing learning experience.
Living a healthy lifestyle is a very important part of my life and as most of you know, I have had some recent skin cancer scares that have resulted in surgery and now scars. Healthy skin and beauty products are a huge part of my daily routine, so I was thrilled when my dear friend Sarah introduced me to the Beautycounter brand a little over a year ago. I agree with their mission 100% and have decided to join the team as a consultant and spread the word about the importance of using healthy beauty products and makeup, not only for myself and you but for our children and environment!! I have tried a number of the products over the pass year and I am loving the way my skin looks and feels.
Today I'm sharing some information about this fast growing company and my favorite products. Everything I have used works wonderfully..I am also thrilled to make a difference and get safe products in the hands of everyone!

They have a pop up shop for the rest of the summer in Nantucket. I hope to visit this September!! |
Here are some of my favorites so far and best sellers:
1. The nourishing cream cleanser. I use this in the am and pm to wash my face!
2. This wonderful charcoal mask draws out impurities and refines and smooths skin.
3. The rose water spray is so refreshing and instantly gives my tired skin a refresher. I'm packing this for my trip to Chicago this week.
4. The skin tinting foundation cream is light but has great coverage.
5. Lip gloss
6. I use the cleansing balm not only to wash my face but during the colder months I slather it on my face as a deep hydrating treatment. It's amazing!
7. Eye cream is a daily must at my age.. ;)
8. Sun block that is free of all the harmful chemicals and hormone disruptors.
9. The oils: Something else I swear by these days. There are three available or purchase in the set here. (the newest oils have names not numbers)
10. Hair conditioner. I need a deep conditioner with my wavy, thick hair. This one does the trick!

Shelter Loves... - Interior Design 2016
Happy Saturday. Well Matty got back from the Olympics and had a great time! I mean how could you not, right? I've been tuning in the past few days. The athletic ability, endurance and commitment these competitors have is inspirational! It also makes me want to bump up my exercise routine a bit and push myself harder. I'm finding I need to work twice as hard to look and feel the same as I did five years ago. * if you are under 35 you don't need to worry about this yet! Read on to find out what is exciting me this week!
1. The Olympics. I was reading Michael Phelps' back story the other day. It is pretty remarkable how swimming and letting go of past hurt really saved his life and career. Some of his remarks mentioned never giving up on yourself in life. We all go through tough times at one point or another. I thought this quote summed up this concept well. "NEVER STOP LOOKING UP"! The stars do come out and the sun will (does) shine again!
2. I'm all about this relaxed look lately. The orange and blue mixed with the graphic stripes, bag and scarf are all working for me today! Purchase a similar feeling shirt here. I'm loving Mark D. Sikes stripes collection! They are classic but updated!
3. This is basically the "it" boot of the Fall season. I have seen this style in an array of colors and heights but the narrow heel covered in the same fabric as the body of the shoe is a must have! I also love how this bootie can be dressed up or down.
4. This painting has great movement. See it or purchase here - by Gudrun Mertes-Frady
5. Wow, this tile! Justina Blakeney's home is in House Beautiful this month. This bathroom is not for the faint of heart but Justina is never afraid to take risks with her style. I love the handmade quality of these beautiful blue tiles. By Fireclay Tile. The recessed vintage mirror and brass fixtures are also stunning.
