Cottage love #59 - Interior Design 2016

My birthday is right around the corner, while I tend not to make a big deal of it, I am realizing the older I get the less complicated and cluttered I want my life to be. Because of the revamp to the front of my house there is a trailer out front for the construction debris. I plan to take full advantage of this and toss out some things around my home.

This Nashville couple decided to down size and have a home custom built when their kids went off to college. They crafted a check list of their perfect design features ahead of time. Their bright and airy cottage style home is free of clutter and perfect for two. I love the white facade, simple clean details and that KITCHEN!!! Beautiful windows mean everything in a home! Enjoy! xx (images via Southern Living)

Shelter Loves.. - Interior Design 2016

I had every intention of sharing this post on Friday but it did not happen. Sometimes the day gets away from us and that is okay. In fact, if you have your health (mentally and physically), safety for you and your family, food to eat and a roof over your head, everything else will be okay, most likely better than okay. Let's face it, life can be dark. I have had a difficult time processing the horrific event that unfolded in Las Vegas. I cannot take my mind off of everyone affected and the innocent people that lost their lives. Their family and friend's pain is unfathomable. 💗

I was also saddened to hear about the passing of Tom Petty. I grew up with his music and I am pretty sure we all have a favorite song that reminds us of a time and place in our life. He grew up poor with an abusive father but somehow rose above it all and shared his song writing ability and musical talent with us for over forty years. Besides sadness, and my work, here is what is rolling around in my mind. Thanks for reading my blog today. I am grateful for you all. xo

1. I have a thing for ruffle tops. This J.Crew top looks flattering and would be beautiful layered during the colder months. I like the green too and it is 40% off - use code: yayclothes.
2.+ 6. Pretty bedding!! I am in the need of some fresh white bedding and I know I won't go wrong having Cece DuPraz monogram a pair of pretty shams for me
3. Copper down pipes and gutters. I'm always looking at home exteriors but even more so now that I'm going to be REPAINTING in a few weeks!! If I ever build a house I am thinking copper down pipes would be a good idea. ;)
4. Poppy Delevingne is so cute. (I may have even named my cat after hearing her name). She has a beautiful way of wearing feminine frocks. This is one of her outfits during London's fashion week.
5. So many of his songs remind me of different points in my life, especially when I was younger.  “Do something you really like, and hopefully it pays the rent,” he counseled. “As far as I’m concerned, that’s success.” Tom Petty
Rest in Peace, Tom
I love all types of music and try to introduce different bands to my 7 and 10 year old. You better believe they'll be learning about Tom this week. In fact, we played his songs at breakfast!!

DO ALL THINGS WITH LOVE - Interior Design 2016

I actually had planned to share my "Shelter Loves" post with you today but I just was not feeling it after learning the heartbreaking news of the horrifying events that occurred in Las Vegas last night. There isn't much I can say or do to make anyone feel better. I also know that I only have control over my actions and not much else in this crazy world. I will continue to choose love over fear and strive to try to: do all things with love. Sending love, peace and prayers to all the innocent victims, families and those impacted by this senseless act of violence.

Love the look - transitional fall style - Interior Design 2016

It's usually crisp and cool by late September in New England, at least in the morning and evenings, but this year? It feels more like an extension of August! I can't believe I am saying this but I'm looking forward to wearing sweaters and sipping hot toddies. I always appreciate the short season between summer and brisk fall when I can wear transitional clothing and not freeze or sweat my ass off. I'm loving this look and will be wearing it myself for as long as possible. Faithfull The Brand has some great pieces! A few of the items listed are from Shopbop - they are currently having a three day sale that you won't want to miss! Cheers! xx

My home - Exterior paint choices - Interior Design 2016

Hello, hello...So glad to be able to sit and blog today! I shared this photo of my kiddos on insta the other day. We had just gotten back from flag football, hence my son's sweaty forehead! The gallery wall is also a work in progress but the real story here is I'm finally getting new windows and redoing the front of my little ranchola!! I can't wait to dive in and paint the facade, the problem is, it's a simple home architecturally but I still want it to look gorgeous. I thought I'd share my thoughts, feel free to chime in on what you like for color schemes!! I will share paint chip ideas tomorrow. I can make decisions for my clients no problem but for my own home?? Not so much. Thoughts?? xx

Body of the house:

 - I am either going with  1. White or 2. Pale Grey
Here are some nice examples. The next question is to add shutters back on or go without. I am leaning towards shutters. I typically love white houses with black shutters on classic homes but I am not sure how I feel about it on my home.

            White facade:

White with grey shutters (this is soft and pretty)

Warm white with blue grey shutters

Pale Grey with black shutters:
(this cape is adorable)

Now onto the door color choice. I currently have a black door. I love glossy black doors but because my house is simple, I think I'd like to differentiate it with a pop of color on the door. I am also not married (as most of you know) so I am not dealing with a guy's opinion either. I currently have a black storm door with a glass insert. (which I absolutely need in Boston during the cooler months)

Door choices
(it will be in a high gloss paint)

A rich glossy blue (not navy)

Coral

Glossy black - my entrance is far from this stunning!!

 Pink
(this shade is pretty perfect)

Pale blue

Shelter loves - Interior Design 2016

Hello Friday 💗. With no meetings on tap today, I honestly could have worked from the comfort of my bed. It's been windy and rainy all week and we are all ready for some sun shine up in here! Besides the hilarious posts on Man Repeller , here's what else made me happy this week!

1. I design a lot of kitchens, I'm always searching for new inspiration that has not been shared everywhere.. This kitchen is so cool, I also appreciate a house that looks lived in..Don't you??
2. I need, want and must get a signet bag. This green and snake skin version is dynamite!!
3. I am always on the hunt for a boot with a narrow shaft calf but now wider boots are all the rage. This version reminds me of something my Mom would have worn in the 80's but I'm sort of digging the change and look.
4. Which brings me to number three, the boots in number in numero two would look fab just like this! You could rock a trash bag Olivia!!
5. God I love gorgeous flowers...I think I'd get married again just to choose the flowers..(kidding of course) this arrangement is so textural and interesting!
6. I am not saying don't consider others but by all means consider your happiness too. Nuff said.
7. UMMMM, Giovanna is the master of chic and cool.. I have been watching her all over fashion the "weeks". Her street attire is usually my favorite! She wore this look during NY fashion week. I still LOVE me some leopard. This dress and you Giovanna, are phenom.
xx
